What It Is: A great horror comedy about genetically engineered sheep that become ultra violent!
Why I Watched It: All the promotional material gave Black Sheep that "so-bad-its-good" vibe and I couldn't wait to see it.
What I Thought: Black Sheep was hilarious and gross and grossly hilarious and hilariously gross. The sheep went crazy and started eating everybody, but they were still so fluffy and huggable looking. The juxtaposition of it all was probably my favorite part.
The mostly unknown New Zealand actors were spot on for this type of movie. The jokes kept coming all the way through, hitting on everything from werewolf parodies to the in-joke that New Zealanders often get a little too "attached" to their sheep. The addition of the hippie character, Experience, opened up all the wonderful eco-political and neo-pagan jokes as well.
Did I mention that Black Sheep is gory as hell? I should probably mention that. Some of you may remember that New Zealand is no stranger to splatter films. Peter Jackson filmed Bad Taste and Dead Alive (Braindead) before leaving his home country and, as a matter of fact, Weta Workshop even provided Black Sheep's gruesome effects.
Highlights: Bloodthirsty sheep babies, were-sheep, human and sheep whoopy, awesomely gruesome effects, and spot on humor!
Who Should See It: Comedy-Horror fans, New Zealanders, and fans of Peter Jackson's early work.
How Soon: Wait for DVD if you must, but Black Sheep would also be a fun, if bloody as hell, night out!

You know, if you had uttered the names "Bad Taste" and "Dead Alive" BEFORE I agreed to watch this, I definitely wouldn't have made that decision. :P
Ha! NY Diva wrote "utter." No pun intended?
