What It Is: Drama about a man coping with grief over the loss of his family on 9/11.
Why I Watched It: I like Don Cheadle and I was a little interested to see another non-comedy from Sandler.
What I Thought: Meh. Reign Over Me was an odd experience. Sandler's and Cheadle's performances were both pretty good, the story was okay, and the drama was in the right place. Still, something about the movie just didn't click with me.
Reign Over Me focuses very much on Sandler's grief after his wife and 3 daughters died in a plane crash. The story was good and Sandler was believable, but I just didn't get wrapped up in the emotion like I expected to. Maybe I couldn't connect with the film because no one that I cared about has died yet. Perhaps I'd need a similar experience in order to better understand the emotional struggle involved.
Whatever the case, Reign Over Me just didn't tug my heart strings like I expected it to, but there's no way to know what sort of chord it would strike with you.
Highlights: Cheadle becoming addicted to Shadow of the Colossus, scooter rides, and the side plot with Cheadle's crazy patient.
Who Should See It: I really don't know. Anybody that thinks the plot sounds interesting, I guess.
How Soon: Whenever.
