1408 - 2007

What It Is: A Stephen King short story turned into a film about a non-believer spending a night in the most haunted hotel room ever.

Why I Watched It: Looked like a good horror movie and it seems I'll watch just about anything these days that has Sam Jackson in it.

What I Thought: It was a good horror movie indeed. All the necessary thrills and chills were there, despite overusing variations of the "reflection-in-the-mirror" trick.

Sam was good fun as usual and John Cusack played a believably distraught hauntee. The effects were good and it was never quite clear what was Cusack's own developing fear and what were physical manifestations of the evil room. And that's exactly how it should be.

Highlights: Cusack's believable frankness, his often humorous personal narration, and his escape attempts. Oh, did I mention Sam Jackson is in the movie?

Who Should See It: Stephen King fans, horror fans, and anyone else that could use a good scare.

How Soon: It just opened Friday and looks like the only horror movie coming down the pipe for a while. It provides a decent thrill, but it's not going to change your life. You can take your time.
